The Best & Worst Awards - 9/14 - 9/20

This weeks best award goes to....

Whitney Houston, for going on Oprah and finally laying it all out on the table. Yeah, we knew she was doing drugs when she appeared on Being Bobby Brown back in 2005. And we knew that back in 2002 she had to be doing drugs when she told Dianne Sawyer that "crack is wack". And we were pretty sure she was doing drugs when she showed up looking concentration camp skinny at a Michael Jackson tribute show in 2001. But it was nice to finally hear it from the source. Kudos to you, Whitney, for being open and giving us fans a reason to feel good about still liking you. (And btw, the album is pretty freakin' good. She may not have the soaring vocals she used to have, but you can't help but enjoy the songs.)

The weeks worst award goes to....

VH1 Diva's 2009, for being the worst Diva's concert in the history of the series. What do you do when you're trying to resurrect a once highly anticipated TV special? You get a bunch of American Idol contestants, one drunk host, & a few faulty ear phones so none of your artists can hear themselves when they perform. The best performances of the night came from Melissa Etheridge and Cyndi Lauper and they weren't even billed. And I'm terribly sorry, but any concert that has Diva in its title and then follows that with Miley Cyrus is doomed to fail. Please, Vh1, if you decide to do this again, do it right. (Yeah, I didn't post any videos from the event. It sucked. Find them yourself.)

New JoJo!

It's been a little while since we've heard anything new from JoJo. Fortunately for us, some new songs have leaked recently. From what I'm hearing, this album is going to be pretty awesome. I have to say, I never thought I would like JoJo very much. She's proved me wrong quite a few times over the past few years. Her last album was really good and incredibly underrated.... ANYWAY, ENJOY!

The Best Of Teedra Moses

Teedra Moses is another one of those R&B artists who keeps slipping through the cracks. She's contributed her writing talents to numerous artists, including penning Christina Milian's biggest single, "Dip It Low". Unfortunately, after releasing her only album "Complex Simplicity" in 2004, her label TVT Records went bankrupt. Any plans to release another album were scrapped and Teedra Moses was back at square one. Since then, she's released 3 mixtapes and continues to contribute her writing and vocal talents to other artists. It's recently been announced that her sophomore effort, "The Young Lioness" will be released in late 2009 or early 2010. Hopefully we'll be hearing more from her soon. Until then, enjoy this Best Of compilation.

The Ultimate Collection 4.....

This Ultimate Collection comes from an unknown (to most) R&B artist named Lina. Back in 2001, I was working at a local mall and on my breaks I would browse the newly released albums at HMV. I came across a listening station the was playing Lina's debut album, "Stranger On Earth". I was instantly hooked on her mixture of vintage 20's/30's soul and up to date urban beats. It's a shame she wasn't able to get a hit because she was doing this a year before Blu Cantrell broke with the same sound. She's totally original and absolutely worth the download. Here's a collection of her 3 albums, 1 soundtrack song, & the new single, "My Man". ENJOY!
