R.I.P.

First it's Ed McMahon, then it's Farrah Fawcett, & now it's Michael Jackson. (Whoever said celebrity deaths come in 3's wasn't kidding.) We seem to be losing all of our icons lately. It's definitly the end of an era. Anyway, a while back I posted a mix I made of Michael Jackson's singles. I can't really post any music from Farrah & Ed, seeing as how they weren't musicians, but I can repost the Michael mix in honor of all 3. For those of you haven't downloaded it yet, ENJOY!

The Bonus Disc features some Michael Jackson collaborations. Most of the tracks involve him doing background vocals. ENJOY!

Beautiful People!

Here's a fantastic review of "Beautiful People" from tvscoop.tv:

"Don't look now, but I think something pretty amazing just happened. A new comedy show was broadcast, after an advertising campaign that made it look promising and - wait for it - IT WAS GOOD. Really good in fact! Oh readers, I've been let down so many times before... No Heroics still hurts. But this little gem, based on the childhood memoirs of Simon Doonan, fulfilled its potential, and then some.

This opening episode started in present day New York, with window dresser Simon Doonan firmly placed among the "beautiful people". We soon see, however, that Simon was not born into this environment - the majority of the episode is an extended flashback set in drab early 1990s Reading, where Simon spent his childhood. He's a camp teenager, smart and funny, and hangs out with Kyle (who prefers to be called Kylie), and together they give "unwanted fashion advice" to the locals.

They are two wonderfully warm and charismatic characters, but this show is absolutely packed full of them. Simon's mother, Debbie, is a gregarious, often drunk bottle-blonde, played - one might say against type, but brilliantly - by Peep Show's Olivia Colman, his father is presumably the most intelligent plumber in Reading, and his sister is the ultimate tart with a heart. They're a close family, who dance and argue and genuinely love each other completely.

As well as great characters, this comedy has the added bonus of being made with real care. It is amazing that we can already be nostalgic about the 1990s, but the era is evoked brilliantly through the soundtrack and attention to detail. In this way, there's a slight Spaced-feel to this: it's a heightened reality, with a bright colour palette, flashbacks and flashforwards, and lots of fantasy sequences.

This may not be the sort of comedy to make you fall about on the floor laughing, but it will certainly warm the cockles of your heart (whatever they may be) and that's the sort of comedy I love. Above all, affection and eccentricity are celebrated, and that's a very good thing indeed."

I came across this show for the first time this summer after tuning into the TV station LOGO. "Beautiful People" is the prefect example of American TV's shortcomings. Once again, England has produced a ground breaking show with characters who not only make you laugh, but also touch your heart. If it weren't for England's influence, we wouldn't have shows like "All In The Family" or "The Office". Hopefully, if the past is any indication of what will happen in the future, "Beautiful People" will inspire a new brand of American television. Until then, check out LOGO or go to logoonline.com to check out full episodes. I'm also providing the soundtrack for you right here. There's a lot of fun remake's by some of Brittain's best and a few extremely enjoyable pop hits from the 90's. ENJOY! (Look below the download link for a clip from the show.)

Up!

This story made me cry. It comes from MSN.COM. :

California girl gets dying wish to see movie 'Up'
June 19, 2009, 2:04 PM EST

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- Colby Curtin got her final wish.

The 10-year-old girl desperately wanted to see the new Disney-Pixar movie, "Up." But the cancer-stricken girl was too sick to go to a theater.

Thanks to a family friend who got in touch with the movie studio Pixar, an employee of the Emeryville-based company arrived at Colby's home with a DVD copy of the movie, The Orange County Register reported Friday. The girl died later that night.

Colby's mother, Lisa, said she had asked her daughter if she could hang on until the movie arrived.

"I'm ready (to die), but I'm going to wait for the movie," she said her daughter replied.

"Up" is the animated tale of a grumpy old man who, after his wife's death, tries to fulfill their joint dream of visiting South America by tying thousands of balloons to his house and floating away.

"When I watched it, I had really no idea about the content of the theme of the movie," Colby's mother told the Register. "I just know that word 'Up' and all of the balloons and I swear to you, for me it meant that (Colby) was going to go up. Up to heaven."

Colby, who was diagnosed with vascular cancer in 2005, saw previews for the film in April.

"It was from then on, she said, 'I have to see that movie. It is so cool,'" family friend Carole Lynch said.

But the girl's health began to deteriorate. On June 4, Curtin asked a hospice company to bring a wheelchair so that her daughter could go to a movie theater but the chair was not delivered over the weekend, Curtin said.

By June 9, Colby was too sick to go anywhere.

Another family friend, Terrell Orum, called both Pixar and Disney, which owns the animation studio. The message was received by Pixar officials, who agreed to send someone to Colby's house the next day with a copy of "Up" for a private screening, Orum said.

The employee arrived with the DVD, stuffed animals of characters and other movie memorabilia.

Colby was unable to open her eyes to see the movie so her mother described the scenes. When her mother asked if she enjoyed it, the girl nodded, Curtin said.

The Pixar employee left after the movie, taking the DVD, which has not been released. Lynch, who was with the family during the screening, said the employee's "eyes were just welled up."

A call to Pixar seeking comment was not immediately returned Friday.

Colby, with her parents nearby, died later that night.

Her mother said one of the memorabilia left by the Pixar employee was an "adventure book" based on a scrapbook that, in the movie, is kept by the wife of the main character.

"I'll have to fill those adventures in for her," Lisa Curtin said of her daughter.

Yummy Bingham - Underrated

Yummy Bingam is the goddaughter of R&B legends Chaka Khan & Aaron Hall. That has to say something about her musical ability. Bingham wrote and recorded her first demo at 12 with her father, Dinky Bingham. They shopped the demo for a couple of months. A producer her father was mentoring, Supa Dave West called her to record a song with De La Soul for the Osmosis Jones movie. It was the beginning of a long series of collaborations establishing Bingham as De La Soul's appointed vocalist. Around the same time, producer and performer KayGee [from Naughty By Nature] was interested in making something out of her. He recruited her for his new girl group, Tha' Rayne and got them signed to Arista Records in 2001. The group provided vocals for acts such as Boyz II Men, Queen Latifah, Next and Jaheim. As a member of Tha' Rayne, Bingham got a taste of the spotlight with the group's appearance on Jaheim's hit single "Fabulous" as well as with Tha Rayne's own songs "Rock wit Me" (2002), "No L.O.V.E." (2002) and "Didn't You Know" (2003), produced by Rich Harrison. Their debut album Reign Supreme was expected for a March 2004 but the album was soon shelved and the group broke up.

After the split, Bingham continued to work behind the scenes. She wrote songs for artists like Destiny's Child, Mya, Syleena Johnson, Mary J. Blige, JC Chasez and Busta Rhymes. In 2005, Yummy was signed to Universal/Musik Park Records and started recording material for her first solo album "The First Seed". The first single, "Come Get It" was not as well received as it should have been but was liked well enough to be used in a Pontiac commercial. The following to "Come Get It" was the originally intended for Destiny's Child song "Is It Good To You", produced by Rockwilder. The song was ready to hit radio in March of 2006, but didn't catch on, so Motown quickly changed the single to "One More Chance". Although it was the #2 added song on Urban Radio, Bingham encountered label problems that caused her to break management agreements with Muzic Park Records. The promotion of the single was halted and the album release was cancelled.

Most recently, Yummy Bingham has written for numerous artists, including the number 1 hit, "Tell Me" feat. P.Diddy & Christina Aguilera. In Novemeber of 2007, she gave birth to a baby girl. Yummy is also said to be working on material for a new album through a deal she made with Czar Entertainment. We're certainly hoping for a release from her soon. She's an amazing talent and the world deserves to hear her. Until then, you'll be able to hear her on your favorite site, Jared's Broken Records as a part of our Underrated series. ENJOY!

Kiley Dean - Underrated

Here's another AMAZING artist that once again keeps getting signed and then shelved. In 2002, she signed with Timbaland's now defunct record company, Beat Club Records. She recorded the album, "Simple Girl" and released two singles. Again, the singles failed to chart very well and the album was shelved. I personally think the album wasn't given it's proper chance because the label would not exist very soon after. In any case, I believe the album to be one of the best of 2002. Timbaland's beats are always amazing and this is no exception. Kiley Dean is a white girl with the singing chops and soul equal to that of her Timbaland partners in crime, Aaliyah & Tweet. The abum also features songwriting work by the one and only Brandy. And you all KNOW how in love I am with Brandy.

Kiley's next chance was in 2006 with the album "Changes". ONCE AGAIN, it was shelved. This time around, Kiley wasn't even given the chance to release a single. Plenty of songs were leaked onto the internet and it has def. become a fan favorite.

The future for Kiley looks a little brighter. In 2007, she signed with Music World Entertainment and is currently in the studio recording new material for an album. Timbaland is said to once again reuite with Kiley and produce a few tracks. In 2008, Kiley went on the road with Madonna for her "Stick & Sweet Tour" singing backup. Hopefully this time around she'll get a proper release and finally be given the chance to show the world what she can do. Until then, I've compiled all of Kiley's work for you in our Underrated series. It features all of "Simple Girl", some collabo's, and most of the album, "Changes". ENJOY!

Latrelle - Underrated

We continue our "Underrated" series with Latrelle. Latrelle got her start quite early, writing songs in her teen years for artists like Destiny's Child, Next, and Monica. She started out at the age of sixteen with her mother and manager, R&B singer Aleese Simmons, at her side. Determined to pursue a career in music she began recording her own songs. She showcased at Montana studios in New York, which lead to several labels ( Sony Columbia, Motown, Def Jam, Warner Bros, La Face, Island and Yab Yum) courting the young star. Then she met Kenny Babyface Edmonds who signed her to a publishing deal at Edmonds Music Publishing, and was impressed enough to introduced her to L.A. Reid, and push for Arista to sign the young talent. L.A. Reid met Latrelle and was so impressed he offered her a contract on the same day.

She began work on her first album, "Dirty Girl, Wrong Girl, Bad Girl" in 2001. Production work included the Neptunes, Allstar, & Mike City. The first single "Dirty Girl" failed to meet expectations and the same can be said about the second single, "House Party". Allthough the album was highly praised by fans because of it's online leak, the label was worried about it's hit potential. This combined with disputes over contract agreements put the album in limbo. When Edmonds decided to split from Arista and the album continued to have no release date, Latrelle decided it was best to part ways.

Since leaving Arista, Latrelle has developed even further and recorded a new album under AMI Music Group where she is part owner. Along with collaborating with longtime friend Pharrell Williams on 3 of the albums tracks, Latrelle has also recorded with hit maker P.Diddy. (Well, former hit maker anyway.) There is no released date set for the album, but a single called "We Got Music" was released in April.

This set of music includes her entire unreleased album, a few collaborations, and her new single, "We Got Music". For fans of the Neptunes production back in the early 2000's, this is a MUST download. Awesome beats and awesome singing. ENJOY!

Here's the track listing:

Nicole Wray - Underrated

I was listening to a bunch of Nicole Wray songs I've loved over the years and I had an idea. Why not do a series of mixes that feature underrated artists who weren't given a proper chance at succeeding. Which led me to think, "Since I'm listening to her, why not start with Nicole Wray?". :) Nicole Wray is one of the most overlooked R&B artists in recent years. She's most known for her 1998 hit single "Make It Hot", which reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 2 on the Billboard R&B charts. Since then, Wray has had two shelved albums and been featured on numerous soundtracks and mixtapes. It's unfortunate when things like this happen. (And all too common in the R&B world.) The signing of a record contract must be one of the most exciting and promising feelings for an artist. And then, just as you think things are going well for you, the rug is pulled out from under you. I can't say I feel bad for these people though. I would kill just to sing for a record exec, let alone sign a deal. But, I'm sure it's pretty painful nonetheless. As far as Nicole is concerned, she's getting ANOTHER chance. In May 2009, she announced the title of her upcoming album to be Ms. America, with the lead single to be "I Like It". Let's hope things go well for her. Until then, here's a comprehensive mix of what I believe to be some of Nicole's best. It Includes all of her singles, plenty of mixtape gems, ton's of callabo's, a few soundtrack songs, & her new single, "I Like It". ENJOY!

The Gay Marriage Debate....

To me, this is a non-issue. Even if I wasn't gay, it would STILL be a non-issue. It's just one of those things that "Christian" leaders refuse to let go of. Let me just say that I'm absolutely OK with anyone believing that being gay is wrong. Just as I have the right to be OK with it, you have the right to dis-like it. This is what America is all about. That being said, I do have a BIG problem with said people thinking that this issue has ANYTHING to do with them. If you're not gay, gay marriage means nothing to you. No matter what, gay people will still be your coworkers. They'll still be your teachers. They'll still be your entertainers. It will not lead to beastiality, because beastiality involves an animal. Gay marriage should not be equated with interspecies relations. No one will be forced to perform gay marriage if they don't want to. The same way many churches turn down same-sex couples when they aren't the same religion as the church they want to marry in. It doesn't change or alter what marriage was founded on. And the whole idea that we must keep the ideals of marriage in place is ridiculous anyway. It has always been redefining itself over the years. The original idea of marriage was only to secure land and continuing on a bloodline. It wasn't until much later that love even entered the definition of marriage. And remember when African American's couldn't marry white people? Yeah, that changed...because it was MESSED UP! Let's just face it people. Marriage has been "F'ed" up for hundreds of years. And it wasn't gay people who did it.

Anyway, I bring all this up because I was watching the NOM's (National Organization for Marriage) laughable Gathering Storm commercial earlier today. It gives me the same feeling an old 1950's anti-gay educational film gives me. It's absolutely the most ignorant piece of crap I've ever seen. Below I'm posting a few things you should check out. First, is a short video of the kind of "educational" film I was speaking about. It's called BOYS BEWARE!!! ENJOY!

Next up, the NOM's GATHERING STORM. Listen carefully. My favorite part is when the pathetic looking girl says, "I will have no choice." Like gay people want to have anything to do with your decisions.

Now let's watch some funny stuff. Cause you know I'm all about the funny.:) The next two clips are parodies of The Gathering Storm. They're funny while exposing the absolute ridiclousness of NOM. ENJOY!!

Little Boots!!!

So I was convinced I wasn't going to like Little Boots. I love electro/pop music, (obviously) but I assumed she would be a lot like La Roux. Who's another up and coming musician with a lot of buzz, but zero talent when it comes to singing. Her voice is harder to listen to than fingernails on a chalkboard. ANYWHO, Little Boots surprised me and exceeded all of my expectations. Her debut album Hands is really fun. Great beats, great vocals, awesome melodies. It's like Kylie Minogue, but cool. There's no guilt in this pleasure. If you find yourself enjoying a lot of the stuff I post up here, you'll be happy you downloaded this one. ENJOY!

TLC Singles Collection!!

Ok, so I was going to post a Best Of TLC mix, but I noticed TLC doesn't really have THAT many good songs. I mean there's a few extras on select cd's and some solo stuff from Left Eye that I've enjoyed, but certainly not enough for my extensive Best Of collections:) So, here's the singles collection instead. You'll really enjoy the older stuff obviously. (Who doesn't love songs like "Creep" & "Ain't Too Proud To Beg"?) But a few newer gems include 2002's "Girl Talk" & "Let's Just Do It" from Left Eye's 2009 tribute album Eye Legacy. Def. worth the download. Enjoy! (BTW, you might just get a good Left Eye collection soon. She really has put in some good guest spots on other songs. Not to mention, her unreleased 2001 album Supernova.)

Here's the track listing:
1.Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg
2.Baby Baby Baby
3.What About Your Friends

thecocknbullkid sampler!!!

Here I am again with another new artist sampler. I will never do enough of these posts. Thanks to the internet, I won't have to stop. The next artist I found is thecocknbullkid from the UK. Her sound is very eclectic. She's one part disco diva and one part "too cool for school" indie kid. Def. check her out!

I have to mention, I'm really loving the fact that all these "black" girls are doing their thing in the indie/electro scene right now. (VV Brown, Santogold, & Shingai Shoniwa) It's refreshing to see people excel in any genre that seems to favor a certain race. We've seen it with Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake, & Eminem (to name a few). Maybe someday the music world will be fully colorblind. We're headed in the right direction for sure. ENJOY! (Check out some videos after the download link!)

Here's the track listing:
1.On My Own Again
2.I'm Not Sorry
3.Boys And Girls
4.No Cure
5.Sinners
6.Shake
7.There's A Mother In Our Bed
8.The Head

"I predict this will be the most popular post this blog has ever seen!"

So, in the last post, I mentioned two christian records I listened to when I was a kid. The first was "The Friendship Company: Open For Business" by Sandi Patti. It tells the made up story of how The Friendship Company started. Sort of a mini children's musical with cartoon characters and the mother figure, Sandi Patti as narrator. Around this time, my parents took me to a Sandi Patti concert in downtown Cleveland. At one point, Sandi invited all the kids on stage to sing The Friendship Company theme song. I was so excited and, to this day, I can still remember the hand motions that went along with the song. After that, I couldnt stop listening to the tape. I would take the boombox into the garage and dance around to every song. Thinking back on it now, I'm extremely happy there wasn't a camcorder in reach. It would have been extremely embarassing to have something like that around today. And, trust me, I would have videotaped it. That's the kind of wierd kid I was.

The second record I mentioned was Carman's "Yo Kidz!" album. Carman was this extremely popular Christian artist in the late 80's and 90's. So popular, that he would sell out HUGE concert venue's wherever he went. I remember going to one of his shows and almost being trampled by the CRAZY Christian's running inside to get a seat. It's funny how "Christian's" can totally almost kill a child ito get to a venue to "praise God". It's like the guy who was trampled to death this past Christmas so people could get their presents at cheap prices. Seems hypocritical doesn't it? Anyway, Carman released "Yo Kidz!" back in 1992. It featured an overweight cartoon cat spittin' rhymes and singin' songs that taught children about the Bible. Sort of a "Kidz Bop" for Christian kids in the early 90's. (I guess children just don't feel cool until they're referred to as "Kidz" with a Z.)

These two albums were a lot of fun for me back then. They weren't cool and they weren't even good. But they def. make me feel nostalgic and I'm always up for that. I'm providing both of them for download here. I couldn't find the original "Yo Kidz!" album, but I did find "Yo Kidz! : The Hits". It will have to do:) I suggest you download these cd's even if you didn't listen to them back then. They're really funny and it gives you an idea of how NOT cool I was back then. I tell you though, these albums didn't keep me for TOO much longer. SWV was released the same year as "Yo Kidz!". If it weren't for Christian groups like Out of Eden, I might not have gone back to listening to Christian music at all! (I'll do a post about Out of Eden sometime soon. Until then, watch the video for "Lovely Day" underneath the downloads. That might help Christian music's case after you listen to these kid's albums.)
