In the mid 90's, artists like The Notorious B.I.G. and Puff Daddy ruled the charts. It was a time before music relied on crunk "hey, ho's" and autotuners. The Hip-hop/R&B hybrid still sounded fresh and the Hot 100 chart seemed to focus all of it's attention on urban music. Fortunately for me, this was also the time when I was begining to define my musical tastes. In 1995, I was introduced Bad Boy's first female artist, Faith Evans. Faith had already been working behind the scenes for a few years, singing back up for Al B. Sure and then contributing her writing and vocal skills to Mary J Blige's "My Life" album. I was immediately hooked after hearing her guest vocal's on "One More Chance" by B.I.G. and her extremely catchy first solo single, "You Used To Love Me". There was something different about Faith's voice that set her apart from the Mary's and SWV's of the world:) Her soft, velvety voice was music to my ears and her soulful vobrato was something I tried to immediately emulate. From the very beginning, Faith has proved that she's a force to be reckoned with and a talent to be acknowledged. In case you were unaware of how awesome Faith is, I'm providing you with another Best Of collection. I don't think Faith gets the credit she deserves, so hopefully this mix will provide some proof of her abilities. ENJOY!
